Why Alec Is Running For You

Alec Purves is running for Ward 2 City Council to hold the line on taxes, demand real accountability from City Hall; and reinvest those savings into better social services and stronger, more connected neighbourhoods.

Values That Guide My Council Campaign

Alec Purves approaches public policy from a communitarian perspective; emphasizing that strong communities are built on both fiscal responsibility and social investment. He believes that careful stewardship of public finances – through accountability, efficiency, and eliminating waste – creates the foundation for meaningful progress.

Rather than viewing responsible budgeting as an end in itself; Purves sees it as a tool: savings achieved through prudent management can be reinvested into vital social services, community programs, and forward-looking initiatives that improve quality of life. In this way, fiscal discipline and progressive outcomes are not in conflict, but work hand in hand to support a more resilient, inclusive and thriving community.

Alec is building a unique grassroots movement where everyone has a role, not just big donors. He is capping individual donations at $25 – so you can give $5, $10 or $25 – because he does not want to be beholden to developers or special interest groups; and instead wants his campaign to answer to ordinary residents.

This approach ensures that his campaign is powered by a broad base of supporters, giving each person a sense of ownership and pride in helping to shape Ward 2’s future.

Alec is also asking people to step up and volunteer; whether it’s knocking on doors, making calls, or helping at events; so everyone who wants to be part of the change can participate and feel like they are a part of something bigger.
